Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. The couple relocated to Oxfordshire when she was five and enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma was only six when she made the decision to be an actor. She trained for several years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford in which she learned acting as well as singing. In a school play and a Stagecoach show, she took her role as lead actress at 10, and acted. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 version to J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was published in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting agent by her Oxford teacher of drama. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been chosen for these roles. The cast included Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's debut on the big screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. It set records in terms of opening day and weekend revenues, and was the top-grossing 2001 film. Reviewers have been highly lauding the film, as well as the performance by three principal young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British newspaper, was awed by her for her performance. Then Emma was shortlisted for five prizes for her work in the film winning an award called the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress Young in a feature Film.
